“A
Conversation Without Words, and Oh Yeah…an Exorcism”
With encouragement from friends, I ran for
and won the presidency of my Community College’s Christian Club. Seeing God’s
hand in it, I believed it to be an opportunity to evangelize the campus. God
had different plans. I discovered this as my plans were constantly thwarted and
found myself ministering to our little group and being ministered to and
blessed by them. When I started to put my
plans aside and really seek the Lord in prayer, He began to show me that He
wanted our group built up in the faith for work in the future.
One afternoon I was sitting with two of the
members in the little office that the college had provided for us. There was one
young man who had been attending several of our functions with whom many of us
had a great deal of discomfort. He was a very simple person who was struggling
with something. Although we couldn’t identify it, many of us sensed a big
problem with him, spiritually. God gives people the gift of discernment for such events
as I am about to describe to you.
When he came to the
office that day, one of the seated members, who we had come to respect as a
prayer warrior, thought that a time of prayer was in order. The other member, who
was my vice president, agreed. I sensed very strongly that God would be doing
something huge! As we began to pray in tongues, the young man began to pray in
what I believed to be a demonic tongue. I had never heard of such a thing. But,
I believe Satan has a counterfeit for whatever God offers us, and that with his
words came a perverse, oppressive spirit into the room.
That’s
when I began to converse with my brethren in a way I never had before. Looking
at the prayer warrior I thought, “Please take control here in Jesus’ name, I
don’t feel strong enough to do so.” As she looked at me, I could ‘hear’ her
saying, “You are the leader. God has given you all you need to address this!” Was this 'conversation' actually happening? I
then looked to my vice president, who I had sadly underestimated for months,
because he was also young and normally very quiet.
His eyes were closed
as I attempted to ‘speak’ inwardly to him, “Would you take this on?” He opened his eyes and
looking right into mine, I sensed that he asked, “May I?” I said “yes”
internally. In that instance, I felt a heaviness leave my shoulders (which I
trust was the Lord’s mantle of leadership coming off of me and going on him) and he began to speak.
Opening his eyes,
looking and pointing directly at the young man, he declared, “Brother, you are
speaking in a demonic tongue and I command you in the name of Jesus to stop!
The other two of us came to life, “That’s right!” Once he ceased speaking we
sat him down and my co-leader cast an oppressive demonic spirit from him and
presented the Gospel to him and I led him in the sinner’s prayer. He told us
how his aunt, who came from the islands practiced Santeria and ‘prayed on him’
often. We gave him a Bible and encouraged him to stay away from his aunt.
Once he had left, we
confirmed that we had indeed had that ‘silent conversation.’ God is great and
greatly to be praised!

Prayer Focus:
Dear
Lord,
Thank
you that You have given us all that we need, in You and Your holy Word, to
overcome all things. Thank you for the gifts of your Holy Spirit and boldness
in faith that is greater than fear.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Working
It Out:
Don’t go to psychics or open yourself to Satan in other ways. Be filled with
God’s Holy Spirit, and lead others to Him.
