Who
Will Fight for the Children?
When
I started teaching in the Christian school, the Lord placed the following word
very strongly upon my heart. I knew it was given to me to be shared with
others. I prayed for an opportunity to
share it with as many people as possible. It was soon announced that our school
would be creating a newsletter that would feature articles from students,
parents and teachers. Here is the article, as it appeared in the February/March
1994 issue of “60 Minutes Around the School.”
In
an attempt to stop the growth of the Israeli people, the King of Egypt
commanded the Hebrew midwives: When you help the Hebrew women in childbirth and
observe them on the delivery stool, if it is a boy, kill him…” (Exodus 1:16).
Despite this wicked plan, Moses, whom God used to deliver His people from
bondage in Egypt, was not only born, but was raised in the king’s household.
Many
years later, when Jesus was born, another king (Herod by name) knew that the
Lord’s appointed one had come, and he waged a dreadful killing campaign against
boys who were two years old and younger in an attempt to thwart God’s purposes.
But, again another king’s plan could not stand in the way of the King of King’s
plan!
Now,
as we wait in joyful expectation for Christ’s return, we are both encouraged
and deeply saddened as history is repeating itself. It is characteristic of the
generation that awaits the Deliverer to see great attacks against children.
Abortion, abuse, child molestation, homelessness, childhood depression, and
teen suicide are just a few of the demonic attacks unleased upon the children
of this generation.
As
this word was impressed upon my spirit, there were several questions that the
Holy Spirit posed to me:
v Who will fight
for the children?
v Who will
protect them?
v Who will
direct little ones to Christ?
I
believe that these questions are challenges to all of us. Let me encourage you
to continue to love your children in word and deed. We do so by; spending time
with them, disciplining them in love, treating them kindly, and reaching out
for the cause of the unborn, young children, and troubled teens- for this is
the cause of Christ!
See It for Yourself:
Exodus (esp. chapters 1 & 2),
Matthew 2:1-15, & 18:4-16, Luke 15:3-5
Prayer Focus:
Dear
Lord,
You love the little ones. You told us of such is
Your kingdom, You told us to receive them, and ‘whoever causes a little one to
sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his
neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea. For “…in heaven their angels always see the
face of (You,) Father who (are) in heaven.” They are precious to You and You
are not willing that any one of them should perish. Let us, likewise, so love
and tenderly care for them.
In
Jesus’ name I pray,
Amen.
Working It Out:
The Lord is that Good
Shepherd who, “if he loses one (of His little sheep), leaves the ninety-nine in
the wilderness, and (goes) after the one which is lost until he finds
it? And when he has found it, he lays it on
his shoulders, rejoicing.” To be more like our dear Father, so must we love
each and every one of His little ones, in both words and actions.
